After a storm

Recovery does not end when the weather clears

Damage is only part of recovery. Families may also be dealing with insurance paperwork, FEMA or SBA applications, cleanup, repairs, and the challenge of documenting what happened.

Who we helped

Maria’s story

Maria

Hurricane Milton · damage documentation and aid navigation

Maria had bought her first home less than a year before Milton. The storm badly damaged her roof.

We documented the property damage and provided a written report at no cost. We also told her about SBA disaster loans, which she had not realized were available to homeowners as well as businesses.

She applied and later told us the loan helped cover repairs and mitigation work at an interest rate under 4%.

The documentation was free. More importantly, it helped connect her with an option she had not known was available.
