Before a storm

Good planning starts before landfall

A lot of the decisions that matter during a hurricane are easier to make ahead of time: whether you may need to leave, where you can go, what to do with your pets, and what information you should have with you.

Make a plan with us

Call the storm line before the season or when a storm begins threatening Florida. We can help you think through when you may need to leave, where you could go, and who should know your plans.

A plan for your pets

Many shelters cannot accept animals, and that can make evacuation much harder. We can help you look for options that include the whole household.

Know your aid options

FEMA assistance, SBA disaster loans, and local programs may be available to homeowners and renters after a disaster. We can help you understand what those programs are before you need them.

Document your home now

Before a storm, walk through your home with your phone. Record every room, the outside of the property, major belongings, and anything else you may later need to document. Keep copies somewhere other than your phone.

Documentation

Why pre-storm documentation matters

After Milton, some families had difficulty showing what had changed or been damaged because they had very little documentation from before the storm.

Insurers may ask for evidence of the condition of property and belongings. A simple video walkthrough and photographs taken ahead of time can make that process easier.
