Building Brighter Futures: Partnering with the Jamaican Relief Initiative and Ministry of Education

The Florida Lantern Project (FLP) is proud to announce a new partnership with the Jamaican Relief Initiative and the Jamaican Ministry of Education to bring long-term recovery and rebuilding support to schools most affected by Hurricane Melissa.

Hundreds of classrooms are damaged in Jamaica, leaving students without safe learning spaces and educators without the resources to reopen. As the emergency response just winds up, FLP is focused on recovery.

How the Partnership Works

The Jamaican Relief Initiative and the Ministry of Education are working closely with local parish leaders to assess school damages and prioritize sites in greatest need of assistance. Through this collaboration, the Florida Lantern Project will soon begin its Adopt-a-School Program, allowing Florida churches, schools, and businesses to directly partner with specific Jamaican schools for rebuilding efforts.

This program will provide:

• Verified school partnerships assigned through the Ministry of Education.

• Opportunities to fund and support repairs and school supply replenishment.

• Regular updates, photos, and impact reports from the schools being supported.

Why Education Matters After Disaster

In post-disaster recovery, reopening schools is one of the most effective ways to restore stability, provide normalcy for children, and rebuild hope for entire communities.
