Florida Lantern Project Launches “Lanterns for Jamaica” Relief Campaign In Response To Hurricane Melissa

Kissimmee, FL — In response to Hurricane Melissa, the Florida Lantern Project (FLP) has announced the launch of a coordinated international relief initiative, “Lanterns for Jamaica.” The campaign will connect Florida’s hurricane-tested communities with Jamaica’s recovery efforts through trusted partnerships, education programs, and innovative information tools.

“Florida and Jamaica share the same storms and the same spirit of resilience,” said Samuel Johnson, Executive Director of the Florida Lantern Project. “We’ve rebuilt together before, and now we’re helping our neighbors light their path forward.”

Through the #LanternsForJamaica campaign, FLP will:

• Collaborate with organisations such as the Jamaican American Association of Central Florida, Consulate General of Jamaica, ODPEM Jamaica, Direct Relief, and Jamaican Red Cross to coordinate support efforts within Florida.

• Start a social campaign, #LanternsForJamaica, to share verified updates, recovery progress, and ways Floridians can contribute.

• As needed, coordinate Florida supply drives, cultural benefit events, and the other verified needs from Jamaica.

• Share verified updates, imagery, and storytelling from credible sources documenting the situation in Jamaica.

• Inviting Florida schools to “adopt” Jamaican schools impacted by the hurricane - exchanging artwork, letters, and care packages to foster empathy and understanding among students.
